Productive Rural School

[Digital Rural Baccalaureate No. 186 + Comunal]

The Tepetzintan community has educational spaces for the primary and secondary level, however, there have been no government resources for the Baccalaureate. The first generation, of which we had the honor of being godparents, graduated in 2016. Currently, the educational level has a full capacity in the three years and a total of 70 students.

After participating in the technical workshops and in the construction of the first housing exercise, the young people of the Digital Rural High School No. 186 decided to design and self-build their educational space. To do this, they called their families and teachers, as well as the educational committee to request their support. The community responded by donating land for the construction of the project, local materials (bamboo, stone and earth) and contributing with "faenas" to build collectively. Once the young people had the necessary support, they asked us to accompany their goal through a participatory process.

So far, we have concluded the first stage [2 classrooms + services] and we are in the funding process to continue advancing. Despite not being finished, the school is in use for the three levels of high school and alternative workshops are given for the preservation of local trades and knowledge, which have been self-managed by young people.
