From the territory to the inhabitant
[Escobedo Solíz + Comunal]
The project arises as an initiative of the Research Center for Sustainable Development of INFONAVIT with the initial objective of carrying out a collaborative process with families from Motul, Yucatán to develop a model of rural housing appropriate to the ways of life of the place. In other words, the aim was to create a pilot project that would be built through self-production schemes.
The project did not reach its objective because the work with the families and the self-production process were not carried out, leaving only a prototype of a house.
What have we reflected on from this exercise?
Carrying out housing prototypes without the participation of the people who inhabit the territories is absurd since it reproduces multiple forms of violence and strengthens the technocratic and hegemonic vision that exists in the way of exercising architecture. From Comunal, we have decided not to participate in this type of exercises that promote the homogenization of the habitat and violate the human right to participate in the management, design and social production of the habitat.
