Social Production of Housing: exercise 01
[Community of Tepetzintan + Comunal]
In 2013 we visited Tepetzintan where the residents shared with us that there were two major problems in the community. The first of them was the high degree of overcrowding and housing shortage. The second was the presence of underutilized natural assets such as bamboo, wood and stone. The housing project arises as a response to the social, economic and environmental context of the community with the objective of generating, through a participatory process, a housing model appropriate to the ways of living of the inhabitants.
Once the diagnosis was made by the inhabitants, five technical-constructive workshops were facilitated with the two local species of bamboo and participatory design workshops to develop the housing exercise collectively. Subsequently, the strategic planning for the construction of the project was carried out. The project began its construction in November 2014 and had the community contribution of land, labor (tasks), materials (stone and bamboo) and the participation of young people from the Digital Rural High School No. 186.
